Scoreboard watching
So the Redbirds seem to have had their game wrapped up for awhile now with all of the young´uns coming through. Between Brendan Ryan (just called back up), Rick Ankiel and Ryan Ludwick there have been 5 hits in 12 at·bats, with all but one being extra base hits, including 2 homers. There also has been 2 walks, 4 runs scored and 7 RBIs from those 3. Not too bad. Another young guy, Reyes, was on the mound who pitched a great 6 innings, give up only 2 runs, while striking out 5. The kind of outing that normally sees Reyes lose 2·1, so it´s very nice to see him get some run support.
This means all we can really do is scoreboard watch. I picked a great time to turn over to the Brewers game. Just a couple minutes afater I did, Berkman went deep to go up 3·2 on the Brew Crew. Beautiful. I also saw the last couple of minutes of Fielder absolutely going NUTS on an umpire. I have no idea what happened there, so if anybody knows what he was so mad about, I´d love it if you let me know. He wasn´t just a little mad; he was very, very worked up.
Then as I type this, I´m watching that the Rockies just got a double with the bases loaded to give them 2 runs and to go ahead of the Cubs. And off of Kerry Wood of all people! And it looks like Houston has scored another run.
Last night the ´Stros were not able to hold onto their lead, so let´s hope the don´t repeat the same mistake tonight. I saw Brad ¨home run¨ Lidge warming up, so that worries me some.
So as I finish watching this Cardinal game, I will continue to scoreboard watch and hope that we can finally gain a game on these two team we´re chasing. We really need that going into a couple of weeks of playing division rivals.
Kerry Wood´s my hero,
Tiffany
EDIT: The Cardinals won 12·2, so I switched to the Brewers. I was glad that the Astros had not opted for Lidge (not a save situation) and they were down to their final strike. J.J. Hardy went yard to pull the Brewers within 2, so they brought Lidge in. I was afraid he´d blow the save like he did yesterday, but he managed to get the last out and now the Cardinals are 5 1/2 games out of first! Time to switch to the Cubs game where they are currently getting beat 6·3 in the 8th. Looks to be a perfect day in the NL Central.
And......I´m still looking for why Fielder was so upset at the umpire if anybody knows. Was it just a ball/strike thing? Because he seemed a lot more upset than that.
Tiffany, you have a good blog going over here, and I'll do my best to post over here more regularly. I have to say how thrilled I am to see Ankiel's return, and it's outstanding to see how successful he's been remaking himself into an outfielder after his unfortunate travails as a promising young pitcher. The guy has some real pop in his bat, and I'm really rooting for him. It would be nothing short of outstanding if he had a successful career as an outfielder, and his return, to me, easily tops B*nds's home-run chase. Great stuff, and he made a very nice catch yesterday retreating on a ball in deep right.
Keep up the great work.

Tiffany, Fielder was tossed over arguing balls and strikes, then got really steamed and he and the ump blasted each other. I didn't see the whole exchange, but I know it got very heated after he was tossed. It might have been something specific he said, or just the refusal to leave the issue alone. Either way, the heave-ho was over being struck out.

Jason,
Hey, great to have you over here on my blog. Thanks for the kind words. Like you, I am very excited about Ankiel's return, not just because of how he can help the Cardinals, but because it's a great story for baseball in general. Also, thanks for the info on Fielder.
Hope to see you back here again.

As Jason said, he was arguing balls and strikes. The third strike call was, by the book, ball four, but I'm not sure how it was being called all game.
I can understand him being upset, but it's not worth getting tossed over. He said something pretty specific to the ump, I think, which is why he got tossed.

The Cardinals continue to stay in the race. Every time I'm ready to write them off, they come up with something big to restore hope. With 6 straight quality starts, maybe the Cardinals are getting on a roll. In any case, they need not just a decent road trip, but a great road trip, 5 out of 7 at least. And they haven't had too many road trips that were even decent this season, so it could be a tall order.

Kevin,
Appreciate the answer! I plan to go check it out soon, now that I can go back and see the video.
Samwise,
Happy to have you stop by the blog. You couldn´t be more right about the upcoming road trip. Having a successful road trip is the one thing they haven´t done, yet it´s the one thing they have to do, if they want to keep their postseason chances alive. Should be an interesting week.

thanks for your comments on my new blog, new to this, so any feedback is positive.
One of these days I'll do some views as to why we Europeans don't get the great game
As for supporting the Cards, maybe I'll consider it if and when I get there. Certainly Mr Pujols is reason enough in itself

Jerry,
Glad to have you stop by here. I'd love to hear a European's take on the lack of interest in baseball. I know I'd love it if it caught on here. It would be so much fun to go to games here as well as at home. So, let me know when you write that post!
