What happens with your Cy Young pitcher can't make his scheduled start? Fill in with pitchers who can pitch AND hit.
Pitcher Jason Marquis hit a triple in a pinch hit at-bat in the 3rd inning.
Pitcher Adam Wainwright hit a home run in the 5th inning.
Pitcher Braden Looper hit a double in the 9th inning.
And, we currently have a 10-4 lead in the 9th and hopefully still adding to it. All is well.

The pitchers were awesome today and combined to miss the cycle by just a single. Amazing! I love great hitting pitchers too, but you already knew that...
Whoever says we can't win 100 games is off their rocker.

I don't think I'm quite as excited about hitting pitchers as you are, but no one can complain about 3 extra base hits from your pitchers!
I enjoyed every minute of that game.

well, I was worried at the beginning with the 2 bases loaded situations that were wasted with 0 or 1 out and the runs that thompson gave up, but it definitely turned out nice!

I'd take Marquis hitting .200 (instead of .300) if he'd get his ERA down below 3.50 and pick up 2-4 more wins a year.
That said, pretty nice hitting start to Wainwright's career. First pitch on his first at bat. Home run. Nice.

I certainly wasn't happy with all the runners that were stranded. But, I was happy that we were getting guys on and it seemed that if we kept hitting and taking walks, that eventually we would be able to push a run or two across.

Marquis is good for a few wins, but I would never want him in a pitcher's duel because he certainly isn't going to be winning any 1-0 games. My expectation for him is to win 15 games for us. He didn't last year, but he did the year before. And he's definitely capable of that every year.

I agree with Kevin, while I love a pitcher that can hit, I love a pitcher that can pitch even more :) And Tiff, you have a good point. Not hitting at all is better than hitting but not scoring. If you can hit (and walk) consistently, it is only a matter of time until the runs start rolling in. I just hold my Cardinals to such a high standard!
